We believe that every individual has the opportunity to achieve their potential and where people treat each other with fairness and respect.

We want to promote equality and diversity because we are in the business of improving people's quality of life and well being -  this includes service users, carers, our staff, our communities and all those who interact with us.

"Hello. I want to share with you why I think equality and diversity is important to us. Of course it's the law and we have to comply with that.  However, I believe that for us it's more than the law.

Our overall purpose has been 'to provide the highest quality of mental healthcare that promotes recovery and hope'.  We want to be the best in what we do, and our motto, 'You matter, we care', is a powerful statement to all our communities and our staff.  All of this is supported by the values that we hold - Passion; Respect; Integrity; Diversity; and Excellence.

When I think about how we talk about ourselves as an NHS Trust, it is clear to me that not only are we in the business of improving peoples' quality of life, but it is up to us to promote peoples' rights and dignity.

That is why thinking about and acting on equality and diversity issues is important for our service users, our staff, our partners and our communities.

I hope this helps you in your own understanding of why equality and diversity is important in the valuable work we do.
