The value of relationships

DIYMH

Strong, positive relationships are fundamental to our mental wellbeing. 2016's Mental Health Awareness Week (16-22 May) focussed on the value of relationships and asks people to make relationship resolutions.

We asked our colleagues what they do to look after their mental health: relationships and physical activities featured a lot. Watch our short film to see what some of them said.

We also made our relationship resolutions and to help you decide what yours will be we've put together some tips for strengthening relationships with friends, families, partners and colleagues. Our library services team has also made some book recommendations.

These are some of our relationship resolutions…

  • I will make more time to play with my children.
  • I will ask my husband to spend less time playing Boom Beach and more time playing outside with our girls and me.
  • I will phone my mum and my sister more often.
  • I will switch off my phone when I'm having dinner with my friends.
  • I will see more of my oldest friend who lives a long way away.
  • I will get to know my neighbours better.

…what are yours?
