Callington Road Film Club: Shame

Date: 10 December 2013 at 6:00PM - 9:00PM

Location: Woodside Conference Room, Callington Road Hospital

Screening of 'Shame' (2011) followed by a discussion hosted by Dr Thanos Tsapas.

Michael Fassbender plays Brandon, a mid-30s successful businessman in New York, balancing his daily work life with his all-consuming addiction to sex.

When his free spirited sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan) unexpectedly comes to stay Brandon's neatly organised world is shaken and he faces having his dark secret unravel.

Director Steve McQueen is no stranger to tackling controversial themes: his new film '12 Years a Slave' focusses on slavery in the US and is currently receiving rave reviews.

Shame is an equally challenging and well-received exploration, pulling no punches as it considers the impact of addiction on people's lives.

Dr Thanos Tsapas from the Bristol Psychological Therapies Services will host the post-screening discussion.
