Delivering Single Sex Accommodation showcased on Department of Health film

Our Delivering Single Sex Accommodation project has been chosen as one of four case studies to feature on a new Department of Health good practice film.

The film has just been launched to set out why single sex accommodation matters and show what can be achieved and how. Our approach, and the resulting improvements from the Delivering Single Sex Accommodation project, had already been recognised by the SHA and Department of Health, who asked us to showcase our work on the film in late 2009.

In November a film crew visited Weston Ward and the Eating Disorder Unit at Southmead Hospital to film and discuss the improvements made across the Trust with some of the staff who were involved in the project and a service user. The film, "Delivering Same-Sex Accommodation: Making it happen" can now be viewed on the Department of Health website or on DVD.

Hazel Watson, director of nursing, said, "It is reassuring, but not surprising, that work in our wards is setting the standards for other trusts to follow. This is a great acknowledgement of the commitment of our staff to ensure our service users are treated with respect and dignity."
