Views wanted on mental health services in Bristol

Two meetings are being held in Bristol to seek the views of mental health service users, their carers, support workers and family members, on the changes to the services provided in the area.

The meetings are being organised by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) - a major mental health service provider in the region - to discuss the current changes in how the Trust is delivering its services in Bristol.

The meetings are being held on:

  • Tuesday 22 May, 2-4pm, at Broadmead Baptist Church, 1 Whippington Court, BS1 3HY
  • Friday 25 May, 10am-2pm, at Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, BS16 2QQ
Each meeting has the same agenda.

"The changes we are implementing are designed to improve our service users' experience of their care and treatment, and to ensure that the services we are providing are high quality, safe, effective, accessible to all who need them, and delivered as close to them as possible, " says Andy Sylvester, AWP's Director of Operations.

"We want to ensure our services involve families, carers and all those who provide support to people with mental health difficulties, which is why we are holding these open meetings so people can come along and give us their thoughts on our services."

"The meetings are also an opportunity for us to share the progress we've made, discuss the reasons for the changes and highlight the benefits."

Changes to the services being made include delivering effective access to specialist mental health services through local GP practices and rapid specialist single assessments. The new services will provide intensive support to those in acute need or crisis, brief intervention in the community and seamless transfer to more specialist interventions in the community or as an inpatient.
