AWP staff to raise funds for sensory garden

On Saturday 1 December a team of AWP employees based at Fountain Way Hospital in Salisbury will be 'cycling' static bikes in a bid to raise funds to improve the garden facilities for their dementia inpatients.

The fundraising event takes place outside Sainsbury's in The Maltings, Salisbury, from 10am to 4pm.

Dave Wills, Community Psychiatric Nurse at Fountain Way, who is organising and taking part in the fundraising event says: "We are a team of about ten people including work colleagues, family members and friends. We will have two exercise bikes on the day and we will be taking turns every 15 minutes to cycle continuously for six hours."

To add festive cheer to the event, Dave will be dressed up as Santa and he will, of course, be joined by some very helpful elves.

"We wanted to do something for our older adult inpatients and decided that we would raise funds to improve the garden facilities at Amblescroft South ward. The plan is to have raised flower beds which are accessible to our patients so that they can get involved in gardening, and the idea is to make it a sensory garden too so if patients are not able to get involved, they can hopefully benefit from the colours and scents from the flowers and plants."

"We aim to raise £300 so we can buy two raised beds and some planting equipment. Anything over that figure will be a bonus!

"We are very grateful to Sainsbury's who have kindly allowed us to fundraise on their site, and to LA Fitness who have loaned us the exercise bikes."
