New home for eating disorders services

AWP's eating disorder services have been brought together under one roof for the first time, offering improved facilities for patients.

The inpatient and community arms of the STEPs eating disorders team are now both operating from refurbished facilities on the Southmead Hospital site in Bristol.

STEPs serviceImprovements include an increase from six to 10 inpatient beds plus new group and individual therapeutic spaces, meal preparation areas and dining areas.

Service users and carers will now be able to experience a smooth care pathway with a range of support provided under one roof. This ranges from the high intensity support of an inpatient stay, through to highly specialised outpatient work on a group or individual basis and ongoing support for carers.

Adam Deuchars, ward manager, said, "We are delighted with the new facilities and it is great for the inpatient and community service to finally be together under the same roof. All the moves were worth it. We can now work creatively with eating disorder sufferers in a positive, warm and welcoming environment. The feedback so far from service users has been highly encouraging and appreciative."
