Acer does the Full Monty

AcerFullMontyFully clothed - though hatless - the Acer detox unit team celebrated their Star Wards 'Full Monty' award on Wednesday (11 December).

The Acer team is the first in AWP to achieve the Full Monty for implementing all 75 Star Wards ideas, designed to help inpatient teams make their wards as welcoming, therapeutic, positive and motivating as possible. Healthcare assistant Jacob Kelly signed Acer up to the international scheme, which was established seven years ago by Marion Janner following her own experiences as an inpatient.

Jacob said, "We already had a creative team culture with a broad skills mix so we were inadvertently fulfilling many of the 75 ideas at the outset. But Star Wards and its sister website, the excellent Wardipedia, helped us to focus and gave us loads more ideas - both sites are really inspiring and putting the ideas into practice has been fun for service users as well as the team."

Nick Higham from Star Wards joined the Acer team and service users on Wednesday to present their trophy and see for himself the work they have done to make the ward a great place to receive treatment.

He said, "Jacob and the team have done remarkably well to achieve so much in a short time. They are paying real attention to detail, to nurturing relationships and making a difference for service users. They are a great example of how Star Wards can inspire and give focus to inpatient teams - I'd encourage other AWP inpatient staff to soak up the inspiration on the Star Wards and Wardipedia websites, which provide a combination of very realistic as well as more aspirational ideas and goals."
