New non-executive director appointed

Ruth BruntFormer Chief Executive of North Bristol NHS Trust Ruth Brunt has been appointed a non-executive director at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust, having fulfilled an associate role since January.

She has been appointed for four years by the Trust Development Agency having been through a rigorous interview process following public advertising of the role.

Ruth has brought to the Trust some 40 years' NHS experience through a wide ranging career encompassing roles in hospital nursing, midwifery, district nursing, nurse education and management.  Until retiring  in 2012, Ruth had spent 13 years in a variety of executive director roles including nursing, operations and most recently Chief Executive at North Bristol Trust.

Ruth joined AWP in January as a non-executive associate director, increasing the clinical and nursing voice on the Board.

AWP chair Tony Gallagher said the Trust had benefited significantly from Ruth's knowledge and experience throughout the past year and that he was delighted she had been appointed to the role. "I am sure she will continue to make a major contribution to the Trust as we move forward on our foundation trust journey.  This Trust is committed to delivering services of the highest quality in an open and transparent way and Ruth's experience and knowledge will help our Trust to achieve these goals"

Ruth said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as an associate non-executive director and look forward to helping the Trust move forward in the coming years.  I believe that my nursing and management experience, allied to my knowledge of the local health community will enable me to make a positive contribution to the work of our Trust."

Ruth fulfills a vacancy caused earlier this year by the resignation of Peter Greensmith who relocated outside the area.

Ruth will be paid the current remuneration of £6,157 for non-executive directors of NHS Trusts. And will follow the "codes of Conduct and Accountability in the NHS".
