Crucial contribution of Bristol carers celebrated

Mental Health Bristol hosted a celebration for carers at South Plaza on Monday (10th June), marking Carers' Week 2013.

The event was held in partnership with Rethink Bristol's carers' service and Bristol City Council's social care services. Over 45 carers, professionals and health and social care students - who wanted to find out more about the vital role of carers - took part in the event.

The celebration focused on the friends, family and carers group which meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Charlotte Keel Health Centre, starting at 6.00pm. Monday's event also featured a series of talks from: the integrated carers' team on accessing carers' grants; LIFT Psychology; and AWP and Rethink's Coping and Caring course. The talks were complemented by stress busting activities including mini massages, meditation, art therapy and tai chi.

Carers valued the opportunity to come together, share experiences and have a time to relax, whilst professionals from the three organisations appreciated the chance to hear carers' views on a range of issues and listen to what is important to them.

Many thanks to all the carers who came along and to everyone who was involved in organising and supporting the event.
