Veterans service ready for action

The South West Veterans' Mental Health service has declared itself fighting fit with a larger team, a revamped website and an improved way of working…

SW Veterans websiteRevealed to the world in the late autumn of 2011, AWP's specific service for military veterans had a brief to deliver improved care and support to former service personnel who suffer mental health problems as a result of their military experiences. With the South West hosting approximately 42,000 serving service personnel and a high number of veterans, support of this kind was clearly needed.

Since the arrival of new service lead David Wilcox last year, the expanded team has been finding ways to enhance the support it gives to military veterans with mental health issues. David and his fellow clinicians in the service all have experience of working in military settings as serving or civilian personnel and so have a particular understanding of the issues veterans face.
