Veterans service ready for action
The South West Veterans' Mental Health service has
declared itself fighting fit with a larger team, a revamped website
and an improved way of working…
to the world in the late autumn of 2011, AWP's specific service for
military veterans had a brief to deliver improved care and support
to former service personnel who suffer mental health problems as a
result of their military experiences. With the South West hosting
approximately 42,000 serving service personnel and a high number of
veterans, support of this kind was clearly needed.
Since the arrival of new service lead David Wilcox last year,
the expanded team has been finding ways to enhance the support it
gives to military veterans with mental health issues. David and his
fellow clinicians in the service all have experience of working in
military settings as serving or civilian personnel and so have a
particular understanding of the issues veterans face.
