FT members create their own island at recent event
50 attendees came together at the Fry Club in Keynsham on 8
March for a chance to meet other foundation trust members and hear
more about AWP services.
For many, the highlight of the day was the opportunity to hear
about the Forget Me Not centre in Swindon, with a number of service
users describing the difference this service makes to their lives
on a weekly basis. The speakers also spoke candidly about how
dementia affects their lives on an everyday basis, giving some
humorous examples and highlighting the impact this has on their
families and friends.
The programme for the day also included two workshops hosted by
the OT team from The Coppice at Bristol's Callington Road hospital.
The arts and craft session proved to be extremely popular with
members with a session which involved the creation and population
of a fictional island. This exercise was a demonstration of the
kind of activity that occupational therapists can use with groups
of service users.
Everyone who gave feedback said they found the event "well
organised", felt it "met their expectations" and said they "learnt
