A day to remember

"Great presentations, great attendance, informative and inspiring!" This is what was said about the first of AWP's 'Celebrating our success' events last Wednesday 11 September.

And what a start it was with over 75 FT members, patients, carers and voluntary sector representatives attending the Swindon event.

After a welcome, the day started with a presentation from a group of Early Intervention Team service users. An inspiring group of young people who, through the support of the EI service working with Swindon Mind and Create studios have learned a number of media skills including film production and editing.

Successful joint working was also shown with a presentation from Dave Potts of the Swindon Community Infrastructure Partnership, where AWP and Swindon Borough Council are working closely to make sure service users' opinions are considered at all times while receiving mental health services.

The final presenters were a group of fiercely independent and informative service users and carers from the Forget Me Not Service. Their account of their day to day personal struggle with enduring illnesses such as dementia was extremely humbling and provoked emotions within every member of the audience.

The event was a huge success. We could not have imagined the level of attendance and enthusiasm.

Thank you to everyone who came and contributed to an unforgettable day.
