The Circus comes to Callington Road!
On Wednesday 4 September
the occupational therapy team at Callington Road joined forces with
Bristol's Circomedia to put on a circus skills workshop for service
users.
With the sun shining and an array of refreshments, some of which
had been made by service users, the open grass bank outside the
Woodside Therapies Unit was the perfect setting for activities such
as plate spinning, juggling, diablo and hula hooping. Circomedia
staff were on hand to entertain as well as support service users
develop existing talents and try out new activities.
Not only was the workshop a fun and relaxed social occasion but
circus skills can be used as a client centred, therapeutic tool to
promote independence, functional abilities, self-confidence,
problem solving and trust. This was noted by Circomedia staff who
commented that they had had a "fantastic time" and were
"particularly inspired" to see service users teaching each other
their newly acquired skills.
A great afternoon was had by all and it seemed a fitting
celebration of the end of summer.
