An ode to tennis
Days ahead of the start of Wimbledon 2014, Active Life teams in
North Somerset and Swindon held their very own tennis tournament
for staff and service users. And what's more, the event's
proceedings have been amusingly captured in poetry…
June 11th was sunny
(Rain would have been a menace).
We stretched and prepped our bodies
For a tournament of tennis.
North Somerset and Swindon
Made a day for all to share,
By 'ACTIVE LIVES' combining
There was talent to compare.
An annual day is now a plan
And rackets we will wield.
This year congrats and big applause
To North Somerset the shield!
Darren Wood - porter at the Long Fox Unit in North Somerset and
who took part in the event - has helpfully penned a synopsis of the
tournament: "North Somerset Active Life triumphed over their
Swindon counterparts by 20 points to 11 in an enjoyable day of
tennis at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Weston-super-Mare. Swindon
got off to a flying start gaining victory in the mixed doubles
match 6-2. However, their lead was short lived as North Somerset
fought back taking the men's doubles 6-1 and the ladies doubles
6-love, finally sweeping the staff doubles 6-4 to ensure an overall
points score victory."
"This is the first year we have arranged a tournament across
this geographic area," says Heather McCulloch, Physiotherapy and
Exercise Team Leader for North Somerset. "We are planning to hold
this event every year and 'Active Life' teams from across the Trust
are welcome to take part in the future!"
Recognition and thanks go to Hutton Moor Leisure Centre who
provided the facilities free of charge.
