Everyone included - Research for All

Everyone includedAll AWP service users will now have the chance to decide for themselves about research opportunities.

Last year, R&D conducted a survey with service users about how they would like to find out about research.  Of those asked only 1% voted for the current way we contact people; which requests clinicians to make the first contact with a service user.  An overwhelming majority (70%) said they would prefer to be told directly and choose for themselves whether to find out more.

"Everyone Included - Research for All" will make this happen.

From 17 March, we will be writing to all users of our services asking whether they would like to receive information about relevant research opportunities, which they may wish to take part in. They can then decide whether they want to receive this information. Taking part in research can involve filling in questionnnaires, being interviewed or trying new medications or new therapy approaches.

If you are a service user and do not want to receive research information, that's ok.  There are a variety of ways you can let us know. You can email (awp.researchforall@nhs.net), or ring R&D (0117 378 4535) between 9-5. Or, you can show the letter you receive to one of your care team and discuss it with them.

Hannah Antoniades Research and Development Manager says; "This is a great move forward for the Trust to make sure our service users have the choice to find out about research for themselves. We are rolling the system out over the next few months to make sure everyone has time to find out about it.

"Research is really important for the NHS. It helps us find out what treatments work and helps improve care for everyone."
