Dr Phil Hammond airs bright ideas
Tune in to Dr Phil Hammond's show aired at 10am
last Saturday on BBC Radio Bristol (94.9FM, 104.6FM and
Digital) when Gina Smith, Consultant Nurse and Simon Smith, Mental
Health Worker were telling Dr Phil how their bright idea is making
a real difference to young carers in Bristol.
Gina and Simon, with help from young carers, chatted to Dr Phil
about the success of the Young Carers Bag Project, which stemmed
from the Bright Ideas competition.
The young carer's bag provides information, fun things to do and
keep for children who visit a mental health inpatient ward for the
first time. It provides a way for staff on the wards to engage with
families and in particular, children who are bewildered by the
experience of a family member being admitted. The project is based
at Callington Road in Bristol.
Last year we launched the competition, challenging all service
providers and users to come up with a Bright Idea to improve how we
work. With funding from our Charitable Funds committee and
nurturing from the Bright Ideas team, these ideas have grown and
developed into major projects.
