Deaf Health Charter launched

Mary GriggsA Charter to help Deaf and deafblind patients access health services is due to be launched this week.

The Deaf Health Charter will be unveiled in Bristol on 20 May 2015. It will help Deaf, hard of hearing, deafened and deafblind people to access health services and improve their patient experience.

Bristol Deaf Health Promotion group, of which AWP is represented, has worked with the CCG to develop the Charter. The Charter sets out four pledges to improve access and rights of Deaf, hard of hearing, deafened and deafblind people. It highlights good practice and will build the capacity of health care providers to eliminate discrimination and advance equality of opportunity.

Dr Mary Griggs, Specialised Deaf Service Clinical Psychologist says "I'm looking forward to speaking at the launch event. I think AWP has a lot to be proud of through the various initiatives aimed at making our services more accessible such as training Champions for Deaf People, setting up Deaf Wellbeing Groups and launching a new webpage BSLSpace, which will contain BSL translations of key information about our Trust and services we offer."
