Tackling the need for blood donors

Tackling the need for blood donorsA rugby team from South Gloucestershire is urging people to give blood as part of the NHS Blood and Transplant's #bleedforEngland campaign.

Chipping Sodbury Ladies Rugby Team is championing the campaign to recruit new blood donors in the run up to, and during, the world's largest rugby tournament.

Nicola Scott, Diagnostic Clinic and Team Administrator at South Gloucestershire Memory Service and a member of the rugby team said "This is a cause which is personally close to all our hearts. We want to raise awareness and help get the blood donor register up to 100,000 people by the end of the tournament. Only 3% of people donate blood and we need more!"

New donors are needed to provide the right mix of blood to match patients' needs and replace those who can't donate any more.

Register to become a donor and find a local blood donation session by clicking here or calling 0300 123 23 23. You can also download the NHS Blood and Transplant's app by searching NHSGiveBlood in the app store. Giving blood is simple and easy to do and will only take about an hour of your time.
