Vibrant, inspiring – and almost here!

RecoveryFestival4The Recovery Festival 2016 is just over a week away!

The festival - which is free - is taking place at Bristol's Broadmead Baptist Church on Friday 2 September. Celebrating recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, the event will showcase inspiring stories of recovery and feature music, film and spoken word.

Next Friday's event will be the fourth Recovery Festival, which is designed to highlight the enormous potential of people in, or seeking, recovery. Vibrant and inspiring from its very beginnings, the festival was conceived in 2013 by AWP in partnership with a range of agencies from Bristol and South Gloucestershire. It has grown year on year into a major annual event attended by hundreds of people affected by substance or alcohol misuse, or working in addiction recovery.

The day kicks off at 9.30am with a packed programme concluding at 4.30pm. Motivational speakers will share their inspiring experiences alongside performances, films, therapies taster sessions, food and refreshments.

Guest speaker Kevin Dooley is an addiction recovery consultant - but nine years ago he was addicted to heroin and sleeping rough in Westminster. Now, instead of lying in the gutter outside the Houses of Parliament, the reformed gangster has been invited inside to advise MPs on helping former offenders stay on the straight and narrow.

Throughout the festival, local groups and services will be on hand with their stalls showing the breadth of support available across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

AWP's Penny Stanbury, deputy chair of the Recovery Festival committee, says, "The festival is free and open to anyone with an interest in addiction recovery. It doesn't matter whether you are in recovery, seeking recovery or in the darkest depths of addiction - we will make you very welcome. The Recovery Festival is also for you if you have a friend or family member living with addiction and you want to learn more, as well as for people working in the field of drug and alcohol misuse. Come along, learn and enjoy the day - we look forward to meeting you!"
