Young people unite

YPUA group of 16-year-olds has raised money for games and activities for the Riverside Adolescent Unit in Fishponds.

The fundraising was part of the National Citizen Service  (NCS) programme, a government funded project set up in 2011 to get young people involved in their local community.

The group chose the Riverside Adolescent Unit as one of their members had been a patient there. She wanted to help raise funds and improve the service for other young people, like herself, who had suffered from mental health difficulties. Fundraising involved doing a car wash, a sponsored 5k run and hosting multiple coffee mornings.

Nurse manager Genevieve Ross says, "I want to thank this enterprising group of young people for all the effort they made to raise funds and also to their sponsors.

"They have given us some lovely things, which our young people are already enjoying and we will be using some of the money for future holiday activities. We really appreciate what they have done and for thinking of us."
