Improving Dementia Awareness in Weston

Dementia Awareness WeekIt's Dementia Awareness Week and the North Somerset memory service team has been improving local understanding of dementia with a stand in the foyer of Weston General Hospital.

The information stand, which was supported by the Alzheimer's Society and hospital volunteers, was an opportunity to inform more local people about how the memory service can assess and diagnose cognitive changes. The stand also promoted the Alzheimer's Society and the Dementia Café at Weston General, which is run jointly by Alliance and hospital volunteers.

North Somerset memory service manager Kay Stokes said, "It's important for us to engage in community initiatives to improve local people's acceptance, knowledge and understanding of dementia. Activities like this are also an opportunity to maintain strong working relationships with our voluntary sector colleagues."
