Postcards to write home about

PostcardsThe Art Therapy service at Sandalwood Court in Swindon collected 93 postcards by service users, staff and visitors to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

These images have now been framed thanks to a generous donation from Charitable Funds and are displayed in Sandalwood Court where they are enjoyed by many people as a lasting record of a special day.

The idea of compiling postcards has been used in the Trust before. It was originally based on the Royal College of Arts idea of inviting recognised artists to create a postcard anonymously. These postcards were sold to raise money for the Emerging Artists Fund.

Gwyneth Ambler, Art Psychotherapist says: "We aimed to gain 100 postcards to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The Art Therapy room was open for postcard making all day at the celebrations organised by the Therapy Team on 10 October. Service users, staff and visitors to Sandalwood House were invited to make their own postcard anonymously to celebrate the occasion. Nearly all of the 93 works made were by service users. It was a great success and a very enjoyable occasion."

Studio Assistant, Charlotte Clark adds, "We are looking forward to organising a new project to celebrate World Mental Health Day in 2017."
