Bright Ideas competition launches

ClevertreeBright Ideas, AWP's innovation competition that turns staff ideas into reality has relaunched

Following the success of our first Bright Ideas competition in 2014, the second Bright Ideas competition will support up to three innovative projects with funding of £15,000 from AWP's charitable fund to share between them.

AWP teams or individual staff members can submit their entries from 5 to 23 September. Successful entries will be:

  • recovery-focused

  • person-centred and co-produced

  • new ways of working improving service user experience and service quality

  • original ideas or ideas cross-pollinated from other services

  • self-sustaining after the initial financial boost

  • transferable to other wards, teams and services

  • an improvement, not just change

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to submit more detailed proposals during October and entrants on the final shortlist will be invited to present their idea at a dragons' den-style event in December. Up to three successful projects will then be selected for funding.

Research and evaluation specialist Janet Brandling, who leads Bright Ideas, said, "We know that AWP staff are having innovative ideas all the time and we were overwhelmed by the quality of the entries for the first Bright Ideas competition two years ago. It was a real privilege to help make projects such as BSL Space, young carers' bags and the Swindon early intervention in psychosis climbing project a reality.

"We're very excited to be launching the second competition and particularly grateful to AWP's charitable fund for making it possible; I'm very much looking forward to seeing a range of innovative entries."
