Consultation on changes to Places of Safety

We need to change the way we deliver services to people who are taken to our Places of Safety under section 136 of the Mental Health Act 2007. The proposed change affects Places of Safety in Wiltshire and Swindon.

Our existing Places of Safety at Fountain Way Hospital in Salisbury, Green Lane Hospital in Devizes and Sandalwood Court in Swindon, which provide a total of three suites (one place in each), have been assessed as inadequate in terms of environment and staffing.

We are consulting with service users, carers, families, voluntary and community groups, GPs, partner agencies and other stakeholders to invite comments and feedback about the proposed change.

We identified four possible options. Three of the options have been evaluated as not feasible. We are consulting on the fourth option, which we believe would be both feasible and beneficial.

Please read the consultation paper, which sets out the reasons why we must make changes, the options, the reasons why options 1-3 are not feasible and the reasons why we believe option 4 would be feasible and beneficial.

We would be grateful if, having read and considered the consultation paper, you would let us know what you think by answering the questions set out in the document. You can do this in the ways described at the end of the document including:

Due to the general election, the consultation has been extended and runs until Friday 16 June 2017.
