New Integrated Service in Swindon
The success of our Dementia Conference last year - 'Remembering
the 'Me' in Dementia', gave us the opportunity to open dialogue
between all of the agencies in Swindon whom have a part in looking
after people with dementia, and helped us to identify the lack of
resources for older adults and their Carers in the Swindon
We are launching a brand new service for Adults in Swindon over
65 with a functional mental illness or adults of any age with an
organic mental illness and their Carers.
Working alongside our partners at Swindon Borough Council, we
are taking over the education room at Whitbourne House Care Home to
run an Adult Resource Centre; ARC.
We are starting the service by running a weekly Carers Café with
advice, and tea afternoons on a Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm,
where we will offer an inviting and cosy atmosphere for Carers to
drop in for a cuppa, to offload share their problems and gain
advice from professionals. This will include advice regarding
medication, financial support and benefits.
We are also beginning a Community Group for service users on a
Thursday morning from 10am to 12.30pm. This will be a social
session where service users can meet others who may have similar
symptoms and where they can talk issues through with their fellow
service users and professionals. The aim of the group is to support
patients to remain independent.
Plans for the future include, a Dementia Day Centre (one day per
week), exercise and mental health, training for care home staff,
domiciliary care staff and more.
We are committed to support older adults with a mental illness
and their Carers live well in their community.
