Release your inner dragon!
A popular charity dragon boat race
is set to return to Bath next month to raise money to help support
people with mental health conditions.
Teams from across Bath, Bristol
and Wiltshire will be racing 30-foot Chinese-style dragon boats
along the River Avon with a 16-strong crew paddling to the beat of
the drummer in the prow.
The event, which takes place on
Saturday 16 June from 9am in the grounds of The Boathouse,
Newbridge Road, Bath, is being organised by Headlight, the
registered charity of the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health
Partnership NHS Trust.
Fundraising Manager at Headlight
Mental Health Charity, Tia Shortall, said: "We are looking for more
teams to take part in this fun and lively event. Last year we ran
the event for the first time and it proved so popular that we
decided to repeat it.
"No equipment or experience is
needed as everything is provided, including skilled helms and
tuition. All fitness and skill levels can participate -
co-ordination being far more critical than upper body strength! We
welcome registrations from anyone and everyone, from either
individuals or full teams, with registration costing just £10 per
The day promises plenty of
excitement, friendly competition and a laid-back atmosphere.
Spectators are very welcome and in addition to the racing, the day
will feature fun off the water as well as on with children's
entertainment, stalls and raffles. Food and drinks will be
available to purchase from The Boathouse.
Tia continued: "Even if you are
not too keen on entering the racing, there will be plenty of things
to do on dry land. We would love for anyone who is looking to
support a good cause to sign up and take part or to join us at the
event and cheer on the racers."
