Dawn til dusk celebration to mark World Mental Health Day
People across North Somerset are being invited to
boost their mental health by taking part in a series of events to
mark World Mental Health Day.
The Dawn til Dusk celebration, which takes place in Clevedon on
Wednesday 10 October, includes an early morning dip in Clevedon
Marine Lake, mindfulness sessions, a lantern parade and a seminar
charting the history of mental health.
The event is organised by Warriors of Wellbeing, which is a
collaboration between Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership
NHS Trust (AWP), North Somerset Council and local charities
supporting mental health and wellbeing.
The event aims to raise awareness of mental health conditions,
encourage those who may be struggling with their mental health to
seek support and to break down the stigma attached to mental health
AWP's Clinical Director for North Somerset, Eva Dietrich, said:
"We are very excited about this event and would like to encourage
as many people as possible to attend. An early morning swim,
mindfulness sessions and the other activities can really have an
impact on mood and how you manage your feelings. We want people to
embrace this event and take a moment to think about their own
mental health and how they are feeling.
"If you are struggling, or you are worried about someone who is,
the single most important thing you can do is start a conversion,
either about yourself or your friend or loved one."
6.15am - dawn dip hosted by Swimpigs and Swimmable at Clevedon
6.15pm - mindfulness session on Clevedon Pier
6.45pm - lantern parade from Clevedon Pier to the Salthouse Pub
led by The Ambling Band
8pm - seminar on the history of mental health in North Somerset by
AWP Psychiatrist Dr Tiff Earle and lived experience expert Steve
Budd, looking at the history from both a patient and doctor's
Free lantern building workshops for the procession are being
hosted by Create Together and will take place on Thursday 27
September at Clevedon Town Council Offices, Old Street, Clevedon,
from 3pm until 5pm.

wider community view mental health. They now have over 20 partner
organisations and recently celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week
