Treatment for eating disorders

Clouds - STEPS

Our inpatient unit is a 10 adult bed facility for both males and females.  Within our 10 beds there are 2 high dependency rooms.  In most cases clients are admitted on a voluntary (informal) basis.  In some cases, clients are detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) due to treatment refusal in the light of not having capacity and or intensifying physical health risk.  The unit is commissioned to cover the South West but can accept referrals from other areas once funding has been approved.

Referring to STEPs Inpatient Ward
We operate on a single point of entry for admission to the Unit, which is via our Community Team.

Before someone is added to the waiting list or admitted to the ward, a visit is arranged by the Care Coordinator with the ward and one of our medics. The visit allows the service user to actually look around the ward, hear about the programme and non-negotiables to enable them to decide if it is something they wish to engage with. At this appointment a pre-admissions booklet is completed which identifies their aims and goals for the admission. The review meeting with a medic is to provide a further assessment of the client's needs including their physical care and monitoring.
