Music evokes images, emotions and memories and it can put people in touch with difficult, buried feelings connecting them to their inner world.

Being with the therapist or in a group using musical instruments, can feel less threatening than a group that requires putting what is difficult or impossible into words.

People are often afraid of their feelings of anger and fear hurting others. Using a musical instrument, such as a drum, enables expression of powerful feelings in a safe, contained way and an chance to learn to express powerful feelings safely.

There isn't the pressure to talk as in verbal groups yet the participant is part of the group and they can choose to talk when they are ready to do so.
