About Research and Development

There is a strong and exciting research culture within the Trust with excellent links to our three local universities, universities across the country and other research partners.

Research and Development (R&D) within the NHS aims to increase the clinical and cost effectiveness of health and social care, improving service user and carers experience of mental health services. To find out more about R&D in the Trust please read our Trust Research and Development Strategy.

With research taking place across all Strategic Business Units (SBUs) R&D is supported by the Trust’s R&D Office, managing research in line with NHS research governance, NHS Research Ethics and Department of Health (DH) guidelines.

Research is supported within five programmes:

  • Addictions
  • Affective and Anxiety Disorders; epidemiology, aetiology and treatment
  • Psychotic Disorders; epidemiology, aetiology and treatment
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Older Peoples Mental Health

We also host and support externally funded and student research (not necessarily within these research programme areas).

Working closely with service user and carers, the Trust works to build involvement in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of R&D
