Local people across Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire are being encouraged to seek NHS mental health support through a national campaign featuring an actress, a reality TV star, and a former professional footballer.
The Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire Talking Therapies service is run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and provides free and confidential NHS support for people experiencing more common mental health challenges, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
It also provides help to those with:
- frequent obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours (OCD)
- long-term and overwhelming fear of social situations (social anxiety disorder)
- involuntarily and vividly reliving traumatic events in the form of flashbacks or nightmares (PTSD)
- having regular and sudden panic attacks, often for no apparent reason (panic disorder)
- having an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal (phobia)
- obsessive thoughts and worry about your appearance (body dysmorphic disorder)
Aileen McArthur, Head of BSW Talking Therapies at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust said:
“We are delighted to be part of this awareness-raising national campaign. Anxiety impacts the lives of so many, yet most people don’t seek professional help and struggle on with a condition that can be debilitating. Anxiety can be triggered by many things, often specific to individuals, with varying degrees of intensity but with the right help and support can be managed. Through this national campaign, we hope to raise awareness of the support available, so no-one suffers alone, and I’d encourage anyone with symptoms of anxiety to seek support.”
