A specialised service supporting people’s recovery from serious mental illness has been recognised in a prestigious health industry awards.

The Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) provided by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) was recognised in the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards alongside other SCFTs across the South West. Together they were “Highly Commended” in the Provider Collaborative of the Year award at the ceremony in November.

They were one of 8 finalists in this category, out of 290 nominations and the achievement recognises the commitment and hard work of everyone who works within the SCFT’s across the region.

The AWP team are a multi-disciplinary, community-based service providing forensic treatment, monitoring and consultancy to adults who have been discharged from high, medium, and low secure inpatient units in the Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Banes and Wiltshire.

The service works to help individuals make the transition back to the community; works collaboratively with other medical professionals, criminal justice system agencies and other partners to support patients, give expert advice, reduce risk and avoid the need for re-admission to secure care.

Adrian Dorney, Divisional Director of Operations for Secure Services at AWP, said: “We are immensely proud of the work undertaken by all staff within AWP’s Specialist Community Forensic Team and the positive impact this has for service users, their families and the wider community. To be “Highly Commended” among such talented peers, for such a prestigious award, is indeed an honour and a valuable recognition of the work they do.”
