There are lots of different types of talking therapy, but they all involve working with a trained therapist. This may be one-to-one, in a group, online, over the phone, with your family, or with your partner. The therapist helps you understand and cope with the problems you're having. For some problems and conditions, one type of talking therapy may be better than another. Different talking therapies also suit different people.
What is IPT?
IPT is a talking treatment that helps people with depression identify and address problems in their relationships with family, partners and friends. IPT considers that poor relationships with people in your life can leave you feeling depressed. Depression can in turn make your relationships with other people worse.
This therapy improves our ability to have positive relationships which improves our moods.
What is CTfD?
Couples Therapy is an approach that can help both people in a relationship with the emotional difficulties that sometimes flow from problems between partners, especially when one or both people are depressed. Improving your relationship through working together on the things that create unhappiness, helps both you and your partner move on from stuck patterns of interaction. This in turn can lead to a happier and more fulfilling relationship. Having a happier and more fulfilling relationship often relieves depression which in turn improves your relationship. This positive cycle tends to improve mood and emotional well-being.
What is DIT?
Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a structured psychotherapy that focuses on understanding the connection between symptoms of depression and what is happening in your relationships. DIT looks to identify a core repetitive pattern of relating that can be traced back to childhood, and then formulates this to understand how you see yourself in relation to others. Once this has been identified, it allows a person to make sense of their current difficulties by identifying a key repeated pattern in how a person relates to and responds to others in their here and now relationships.
What is EMDR?
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy designed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The idea behind EMDR is that traumatic memories, when unprocessed, can become “stuck” in the brain, leading to a wide array of emotional and psychological difficulties. EMDR addresses the ongoing PTSD experienced by a person by relying on the brain’s natural capacity to heal and process traumatic experiences.
