What we do

Primary Infant Mental Health Specialists (PIMHS) offer services to support young children, their families and carers, from pregnancy up to the age they start primary school.

In partnership with other professionals, including children’s centres, health visitors and social care providers, PIMHS focus on supporting the mental and emotional wellbeing of young children. PIMHS also:

  • link with the wider community and other children’s organisations, including nurseries.
  • offer advice, specialist consultation and some training to staff who work with children in their early years, and their parents and carers.
  • work within the CAMHS clinics directly with young children and families.

We do not currently have a PIMHS service in North Somerset, but we are working on developing this in the future. Support for under 5s can be provided by health visitors.
