Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust is delighted to receive the NHS Pastoral Care Quality Assurance Award, for the support it provides to its international nurses.

This prestigious award reflects AWP’s dedication to its people, ensuring that colleagues receive high quality and tailored pastoral care as they start their NHS journey and beyond.

Launched in March 2022, the NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award scheme aims to standardise the quality and delivery of pastoral care for internationally educated nurses and midwives across England. The scheme also awards trusts for their work in international recruitment and their commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of prospective and existing employees.

Claire Young, Resourcing & Recruitment Business Partner for AWP, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised for providing best practice pastoral support to our internationally educated nurses. They are an integral part of our teams and we are committed to making them feel welcomed, valued and supported to develop their careers here at AWP.”

Simon Kasalu, Integration Nurse for Internationally Educated Nurses, International Nurse for AWP, said: “The responsiveness of the Pastoral team has been excellent during my transition. As I reflect, I always recall how professionally my trip to the UK was handled at the peak of COVID-19. I still continue to turn to the Pastoral team when faced with difficulties as they have continued to offer support. Working alongside the Pastoral team now, I feel I have a duty to contribute to providing the best experience for our new International Educated Nurses (IEN) in AWP having been through the experience myself.”
