The ribbon has been cut on a new base for teams providing mental health support for young people and adults in North Somerset.

Rowan is a newly designed facility on the Long Fox site at Weston General Hospital. It has been officially unveiled as the new home for the Child and Adolescent & Learning Disability Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and the Urgent Care and Treatment Team (UCAT) in North Somerset.

The teams are part of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, with CAMHS supporting children and young people with a range of complex mental health needs in the community, and the UCAT team helping people who may be at risk of admission to mental health unit.

The teams officially moved in on Monday 19 May following an official opening by Councillor Martin Williams the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare.

The new environment has been carefully created to promote a calm, welcoming, accessible, and therapeutic atmosphere, with a strong nature-inspired theme woven throughout. From the gentle wildlife illustrations in each room, to animal themed imagery on the doors, and even the room names themselves, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to create a soothing space that supports a positive experience for young people and their families.

It features:

  • Modern consulting rooms
  • A dedicated family therapy suite
  • A dedicated clinic room
  • A brand-new reception and waiting area

Heather Kapeluch, Head of Operations for CAMHS and Specialist Children’s Services at AWP, said:We are proud of the hard work and commitment our teams show in delivering high-quality, community-based mental health care for children and adolescents. In addition to offering specialist assessments and treatment appointments, our purpose-built space enables the team to provide intensive outreach support - helping young people stay at home and in their communities and reducing the need for hospital admission.”

AWP provides healthcare for people with serious mental illness, learning disabilities and autism in inpatient settings and across the community. We service a population of around 1.8 million across Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES), Swindon and Wiltshire, and Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.
